The superfund site at Modock Springs-DLS Sand and Gravel on Malone Road isn’t a serious public health threat.
The DEC downgraded the site from Class 4 to Class 2. That reclassification means that it is no longer a significant threat to public health or the environment.
Among the reasons for that downgrade were a long-term water and soil monitoring program, local homes being connected to a municipal water supply – thereby bypassing wells, and use of groundwater at the site is prohibited. Those were published in a fact sheet by the DEC after the decision.
Remedial actions have been fulfilled and plans are in place to continue monitoring of the site.
