New York Yankees to make Fernando Tatis Jr. trade to keep pace with Mets?

The New York Mets have been on a spending spree this offseason, signing Edwin Diaz and Justin Verlander. Now, in retaliation to the Mets’ player transactions, the New York Yankees could be on the verge of making a blockbuster trade for San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr.

For the first time in decades, New York is a battleground between the city’s two baseball clubs. Although World Series titles have been few and far between this century in the Big Apple, it hasn’t been due to a want of trying. The Yankees and Mets have spent big over the years, and it looks like the two teams could be set for an arms race of top-notch baseball talent this offseason.

The New York Yankees and Mets will attempt to reach the World Series in 2023. Fans of the New York baseball clubs can read the latest reviews at BetMGM Sportsbook NY before signing up with the bookmaker for the new baseball season. Fans can then bet on the games throughout the new baseball campaign.

The Yankees re-signed Aaron Judge after it appeared the outfielder would sign for the San Francisco Giants. The 2022 MVP broke the American League home run record with 62. The Yankees resigned Judge to a nine-year contract worth $360 million. Tatis Jr is currently rumored as the Yankees’ next target now that Judge is tied down.

The Mets’ offseason signings are likely putting pressure on the more successful and more famous Yankees to add additional firepower. New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is the richest Major League Baseball owner and has an estimated worth of more than $15 billion. Cohen has not been afraid to spend money since taking over the club.

While the New York Yankees may want to trade for Tatis Jr, actually completing the trade may be more difficult than it seems. Tatis Jr has a 14-year contract with the San Diego Padres worth $340m guaranteed. Of course, adding Tatis Jr isn’t out of the question for the Yankees. The Padres signed shortstop Xander Bogaerts this offseason to an 11-year contract. The club does not need two high-profile shortstops and may need to move one of them to a new position or trade Tatis Jr.

Tatis Jr will miss the start of the 2023 baseball season after being found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs. He will miss the first 12 games of the season to complete the suspension which began last season. Tatis Jr is also returning from shoulder and wrist surgeries.

Although Tatis Jr to the Yankees is doing the rounds this winter during the Major League Baseball offseason, there are plenty of baseball insiders debunking a possible trade. It is claimed that the Padres are not shopping Tatis Jr around to the rest of the league. The San Diego Padres are focused on winning the World Series for the first time this offseason. The team is having a historic spending spree and aims to take advantage of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ recent decision to go with youth rather than spend heavily on free agents.
