The Buffalo Sabres acquired defenseman Joseph Cecconi from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Oskari Laaksonen, the team announced Thursday.
Cecconi, 25, was drafted by the Stars in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He made his professional debut with the Texas Stars, Dallas’ AHL affiliate, at the end of the 2018-19 season. He set AHL career highs in points (16) and games played (65) for Texas last season.
Cecconi has two assists in 12 games with Texas this season, his fifth in the AHL.
Laaksonen, a third-round pick in 2017, has been a healthy scratch for the Rochester Americans. He tallied two assists in 10 games with Rochester this season.
