112.7 million people expected to be traveling for the holidays

Christmas and New Year’s are getting closer, which means people are probably going to start traveling soon.

Statistically, CNY Central reports that 112.7 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from their home between December 12 and January 2.

Last year there were 3.6 million less travelers. This would be the third busiest year for travels since the year 2000.

AAA reports that about 102 million of these travelers will be driving, which is 2 million more drivers than in 2021. The rate at which people will be flying is 14% higher this year than last year at 7.2 million Americans. Airline ticket prices are higher than ever, but the sales have still been high. Flights will start to look more like they did before the pandemic hit.

Travel will be even longer than usual this year because Christmas and New Year’s Day both fall on Sundays, making people lengthen their trip.

Busiest days are expected to land on Friday December 23, Tuesday December 27, Wednesday December 28, and Monday January 2. December 27 has been projected as the worst day to travel. Major cities will see both travelers and commuters mixing together, creating additional delays in travel time, so plan accordingly.
