New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes has committed to playing for Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.
Cortes joins several MLB stars who have committed to play in the tournament, including Mike Trout and Nolan Arenado, who will also represent the United States.
The left-hander posted a 2.44 ERA over 158 1/3 innings in 2022 and was named to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his career.
The tournament will begin with pool play on March 8 across four host cities: Taichung, Taiwan, Tokyo, and Miami. The championship game will take place at loanDepot park in Miami on March 21.
