Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck has provided an update on the death of an inmate at the Cayuga County Jail.
It happened on November 24th around 7:30 p.m. when the incarcerated person was found unresponsive.
The inmate wasn’t identified. However, Schenck said the person was transported to an area hospital for emergency care.
They were pronounced dead the following day.
The Sheriff’s Office contacted the state Attorney General’s office of Special Investigation to investigate the incident, which is mandated by law.
The sheriff’s office is fully-cooperating with the AG’s office as they investigate. An internal investigation is also unfolding, Schenck said.
No further information is being released by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at this time. Further inquiries were directed to the AG’s office.
