The Buffalo Sabres were unable to hold on to a late lead as they fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 6-5, in overtime on Monday night at KeyBank Center.
Buffalo led 5-3 with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, but Tampa Bay came storming back and netted two-straight goals, sending the game to overtime. The Sabres had a couple of scoring chances early in the extra period, but Steven Stamkos sniped the game-winner, giving the Lightning the victory.
Tage Thompson, Jack Quinn, Tyson Jost, Dylan Cozens, and Jeff Skinner scored in the loss. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 19-of-25 shots.
Buffalo struggled on the penalty kill as Tampa Bay scored three of their six goals on the power play.
The Sabres will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they head to Detroit to take on the Red Wings at 7 p.m.
