Cornell’s Dalton Bancroft earns pair of ECAC Hockey weekly awards

Freshman Dalton Bancroft has earned multiple ECAC Hockey weekly awards, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Bancroft has been named ECAC Hockey’s Forward and Rookie of the Week following his four-point week against Sacred Heart and UConn.

In the Big Red’s 2-1 victory over the Pioneers last Tuesday, Bancroft used a deke to set up Sullivan Mack for the game-winning goal. He followed up his game-winning assist with a three-goal effort in Cornell’s 6-0 win over UConn at Madison Square Garden, becoming just the second player in program history to net a hat trick at the venue. Dick Bertrand scored three goals in a 7-2 victory over St. Lawrence on Dec. 23, 1969, in the ECAC Hockey Holiday Festival Tournament.

The Madoc, Ontario, native is the first Cornell player to receive multiple weekly awards in the same week since former netminder Matthew Galajda was named ECAC Hockey’s Rookie and Goaltender of the Week on Feb. 13, 2018.

Through the Big Red’s 10 games on the year, Bancroft has eight points (four goals, four assists) in nine games. He has the team lead in goals, while tied for the most points with Max Andreev (three goals, five assists).

Cornell returns to action this weekend when the Big Red hosts Harvard and Dartmouth at Lynah Rink before the program goes on a three-week break from competition. Puck drop for both games against the Crimson and Big Green are scheduled for 7 p.m. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the radio call will be on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM).
