Cornell rolls past UConn in Frozen Apple game

Freshman Dalton Bancroft recorded a hat trick and the Cornell men’s ice hockey team cruised to a 6-0 win over No. 6 Connecticut on Saturday evening at the Frozen Apple game at Madison Square Garden. Ian Shane recorded the shutout as the Big Red improved to 6-4 overall with four consecutive wins. The Huskies slipped to 10-3 on the season.

Cornell scored twice in the game’s first 90 seconds and that was all it would need, though 11 different players dented the scoring column on the night for the winners. Max Andreev and Matt Stienburg each had a goal and an assist and Zach Tupker was credited with two helpers to pace the offense. Shane made 27 saves to pick up the victory in goal. In all, the Big Red held a 53-46 advantage in shots, blocked more shots (12-9) and scored on 1-of-3 power play chances against one of the nation’s stingiest special teams.

Logan Terness made 24 saves in goal, while John Spetz and Andrew Lucas combined to put nine shots on goal for the Huskies.

The Big Red returns home for a key ECAC Hockey weekend when it welcomes Harvard to Lynah Rink for their annual clash on Friday, December 2, at 7 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
