Deputies say a Penn Yan driver has been ticketed following a crash involving a horse-and-buggy in Yates County over the weekend.
The buggy was traveling south on Lovejoy Road in the town of Benton when it was struck from behind by a vehicle operated by Linda Gavin, age 52, of Penn Yan.
The impact of the collision sent the buggy into a ditch and ejected the family of four that was riding inside.
Wilma Martin, age 28, and her 10-month-old child were airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight. Ivan Martin, age 26, and their two-year-old, were transported by Penn Yan Ambulance to Strong as well.
Gavin was ticketed for following too closely, improper speed while approaching a horse, and failure to use due care when approaching a horse.
The investigation into the crash remains active. The Yates County Sheriff’s Office says they were assisted by Penn Yan and Gorham ambulance companies, as well as Medic 55, Yates County Emergency Management, and the Benton Fire Department.
