It took overtime, but the Syracuse Orange (3-1) outlasted the Richmond Spiders (2-3), 74-71, in the first game of the Empire Classic on Monday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Four players finished in double figures for the Orange. Joe Girard led the way with a career-high 31 points. Judah Mintz scored 16, his fourth double-digit point game this season. Chris Bell netted 11 points, including three three-pointers, while Jesse Edwards added 10.
Syracuse will take on St. John’s on Tuesday in the Empire Classic Final.
