Republicans win House control

Following the midterm elections, Republicans are expected to win a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives.

This allows them control of the lower chamber of Congress after it remained under Democratic control for four years.

According to Local Syracuse, the Associated Press called the 218th seat for Republicans, which projected Rep. Mike Garcia to win re-election.

The Republican Party anticipated winning the House majority this year. Usually the party that isn’t in control benefits from the midterm elections. Following the 2020 elections, Republicans only needed five more seats to get control.

While this was a win for Republicans, they had expected a bigger outcome. Many leaders blamed the candidates who lost their races, and not things like the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

The final results for the House won’t be made available officially for weeks. Vote counters must tally all ballots in more close races.
