Employees in Wayne County can expect stipends worth $3,000 in 2023

In 2023 Wayne County will be providing $3,000 stipends as a way to attract and retain employees. This was done for the year 2022 as well.

According to the Finger Lakes Times, the move was approved during the Tuesday meeting with the Board of Supervisors. Full time workers will see $3,000 while part time workers will see $1,500. The plan will be a total of $2.8 million dollars for taxpayers.

Other incentives are being provided to employees in addition to the stipends. County workers will be able to cash in two weeks of their unused vacation time in 2022. The shift differential for employees working between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. will be raised to $1.00 from the current $0.75 rate. 911 operators will be paid higher rates based on experience as a way to tackle the employee shortage in that area.

While the stipend is a move in the right direction, employers feel that more is needed. Their hope is to retain enough staff in places like nursing homes or the 911 center. These places require immediate, 24/7 care.
