Crunch erase three-goal deficit, defeat Thunderbirds 5-4 in shootout

The Syracuse Crunch erased a three-goal deficit to force overtime before defeating the Springfield Thunderbirds, 5-4, in a shootout on Wednesday morning at MassMutual Center. With the victory, the Crunch have won three consecutive games, improving their season record to 5-6-1-2.

Syracuse trailed 4-1 going into the third and netted three consecutive goals all in the span of six minutes, including one with just over two minutes left in regulation.

Gemel Smith, Darren Raddysh, Simon Ryfors, and Declan Carlile all found the back of the net for the Crunch. Smith and Gage Goncalves netted goals in the shootout.

Max Lagace turned aside 3-of-6 shots in net for the Crunch before being relieved by Hugo Alnefelt to start the second period. Alnefelt went on to stop 11-of-12 shots and 2-of-3 attempts in the shootout.

Syracuse was unable to capitalize on the power play as they went 0-for-4, while Springfield finished 4-for-5.

The Crunch will be back in action on Saturday night when they square off with the Belleville Senators at CAA Arena.
