The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they have claimed hard-throwing right-handed reliever Stephen Ridings off waivers from the Yankees.
Ridings missed all of the 2022 season with a right shoulder injury but did toss two scoreless innings over two rehab outings in September.
The 27-year-old has appeared in just five big-league games, which all came in 2021 with the Yankees. Over that span, Ridings posted a 1.80 ERA, with his fastball averaging 97.1 mph and his slider averaging 85.6 mph.
Ridings owns a 4.19 ERA over five minor league seasons with the Yankees, Kansas City Royals, and Chicago Cubs.
The Mets will be able to send Ridings from the majors to the minors during the 2023 season without the risk of losing him to another team because he does have options.
