While today’s election not only focuses on the race for governor and other names being on the ballot, there are also proposals for the state that need to be voted on.
One of these issues is the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022. It is also known as Proposition One.
The act is a $4.2 billion dollar referendum that would go toward two different environmental infrastructure projects, according to CNY Central.
One of the two projects would focus on both environmental improvements that would preserve, enhance, and restore the natural resources in New York State. The other would work to reduce impacts of climate change.
Those for the bill think it would help with climate action but those opposing it feel it is far too expensive.
Others in New York didn’t even know it would be on the ballot. Some voters understand the seriousness of climate change, but they don’t understand what the bill is for and wanted to know more before voting yes on it.
There are a few projects that would happen should the bill pass.
These include
- Restoration and flood risk reduction
- Open space land conservation and recreation
- Climate change mitigation
- Water quality improvement
- Resilient infrastructure
