Coy Gibbs, the son of NASCAR driver Joe Gibbs and the father of Xfinity driver, Ty Gibbs, has passed away.
Joe Gibbs Racing made the announcement Sunday. Gibbs was 49 years old.
“It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to be with the Lord in his sleep last night. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time,” the announcement read.
His official cause of death hasn’t been released, according to My Twin Tiers.
Coy was the vice chairman for Joe Gibbs Racing. He not only had a racing career but once worked as an assistant NFL coach.
Ty Gibbs won the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series title this past Saturday at Phoenix Raceway and his father Coy was there to see it.
On Sunday before the announcement was made, Ty pulled out of the Cup Series for a family emergency.
In 2019, another son of Joe Gibbs named J.D. passed away from a neurological disease.
