Deputies: Lyons couple arrested after leaving dogs unattended inside vehicle without airflow

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons couple in connection with an animal abuse complaint in the town of Lyons.

Deputies received a report of dogs trapped in a. Vehicle on Elmer Street Thursday afternoon. When deputies arrived, they found three dogs left unattended in a vehicle covered with tarps preventing any airflow.

As result, deputies arrested Timothy Powers, 32, and Heather Higgins, 38, both of Lyons after determining they shared ownership of the animals.

The two were charged with one count of animal abuse and/or neglect and Higgins was also charged with criminal contempt. She was found to be in violation of a local court order over one of the dogs, which had been deemed dangerous by the town of Lyons.

Both were released on appearance tickets.
