Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza to interview for White Sox manager job

The Chicago White Sox are set to interview New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza for their vacant managerial job, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Mendoza recently wrapped up his third season as New York’s bench coach, his 14th year working within the Yankees organization. He served as the Yankees’ Major League quality control and infield coach from 2018 to 2019 before he took over for Josh Bard as bench coach leading up to the 2020 season.

Mendoza was considered for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers manager openings before the 2021 season.

The White Sox are looking for a new manager after 78-year-old Tony La Russa stepped down earlier this month due to health concerns.
