The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and CFCU Community Credit Union have recognized Goose Watch Winery of Romulus as the October 2022 Business of the Month.
“Goose Watch Winery plays an active role in the community, and we are thrilled to acknowledge its 25th anniversary milestone,” said Megan Slater, Membership Development Manager at the Chamber.
In 1996, Dick and Cindy Peterson purchased property from their friends, Ott and Carolyn Davis, who wished for the property to remain farm. It took two winters to restore the historic barn on the property to its current state, turning a gorgeous tasting room with a big wrap-around porch and an incredible view of Cayuga lake. The buildings that once housed an indoor aquaculture fish farm, have been converted to wine production. The story of Goose Watch Winery is a beautiful piece of history, and the future is looking just as bright. David (son of Dick and Cindy) and Jean Peterson are now the owners, and their heir apparent is their daughter, Amanda Fitzgerald.
“The focus at Goose Watch is to produce exceptional cool climate wines from grape varieties that are less common to the FLX Region,” said David Peterson. “Some are common varietals in the world, but not common to the FLX, others are lessor known European varietals, some that are historic NY originals, and others are Cornell University developed varietals” he explained. Megan’s recommendation is the Chambourcin. “It’s a full-bodied dry red, perfect for the coming winter months. Plus, it’s fun to say.”
Besides providing exceptional and unique wines at reasonable prices, the Peterson family is also actively involved in the community. For example, they have supported the Beverly Animal Shelter through events and donations for years. Dick has been a Varick Town Board member for over 20 years, and Dave has served on a number of wine industry boards as well as the Board of the Geneva Family YMCA. Amanda is currently a Board Member and Treasurer of the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance.
Goose Watch Winery is open every day, 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and is located at 5480 Route 89 in Romulus. To learn more, call 315-549-2599 or visit: https://goosewatch.com/.
