The town of Tyre could soon have its own fire company.
According to the Finger Lakes Times, the Tyre Town Board voted unanimously to create the department while continuing to contract with the Galen-Clyde Fire Department until its operational.
There were a total of four options put before a sub-committee tasked with making the final decision on the future of fire service in Tyre. Those including continuing to contract with the Galen-Clyde Fire District and extending that district to include the town of Tyre.
The proposed Tyre Fire Company would give the town the best of both worlds: Continued support from the Galen-Clyde Fire District, and its own company that could be manned by local volunteers.
