A 37-year-old Syracuse man, identified as John Wesley Smith III, was killed on March 15th.

Copes pleaded not guilty to the murder and weapons charges.

Prosecutors say Copes was caught on camera killing Smith.

Rome Canzano, who is representing Copes, argued that due to media coverage of the incident – the trial should be moved into a different jurisdiction.

Copes was denied bail.
