Cayuga County will have two new election commissioners come January 2023

Cayuga County has two new election commissioners.

The Auburn Citizen reports that the Cayuga County Legislature voted to appoint Keith Batman, a Democrat, and John Camardo, a Republican to lead the Board of Elections office.

Cherl Heary and Katie Lacey will be retiring at the end of the year, clearing way for Batman and Camardo to assume the roles in January 2023.

The term they assume runs through the end of 2024.

Both Batman and Camardo were recommended by local party committees.

In Cayuga County, the election commissioner position is considered part-time. That’s not the case in other counties, where the job is considered a full-time responsibility.
