EBT card skimming is becoming a problem: Why are state, local officials so worried about it?

State officials have issued a warning about EBT cards in New York.

Card skimming is what happens when thieves are able to copy account information so they can access the card.

Card skimmers allow the thieves to capture the information, then access the account to use the money on it.

There was an issue this month in Steuben County where scammers were sending misleading emails to EBT beneficiaries.

If your EBT card, or any other credit/debit card for that matter is ‘skimmed’, then it should be reported as stolen immediately.

Officials say not to wait. Especially if it’s an EBT card.
