Yankees fall to Astros in Game 1 of ALCS

The New York Yankees fell to the Houston Astros, 4-2, in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park.

The game was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Houston crushed a pair of solo home runs off Clarke Schmidt to take the lead. The Astros added a run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot off Frankie Montas and held on for the victory.

New York had a rough night offensively as they struck out 17 times, the second-most strikeouts in a game in postseason franchise history. Both of the runs came via the home run. Harrison Bader crushed his fourth homer of the postseason, and Anthony Rizzo smacked his second. Aside from that, the Yankees had just three hits.

Jameson Taillon surrendered a run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings while walking three.

The Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound for Game 2 on Thursday as they try to bounce back before the series shifts to the Bronx. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:37 p.m.
