New York Mets catcher Francisco Álvarez underwent surgery on Tuesday to address cartilage damage from the loose body in his right ankle that nearly ended his season in September.
The Mets expect him to be ready for the beginning of spring training in February.
The 20-year-old, who is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball, had two hits, including a home run, in 12 at-bats for the Mets during the regular season.
Álvarez slashed .260/.374/.511 with 27 home runs over 112 games split between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse.
