Grow LivCo is dedicated to supporting Livingston County’s small businesses and entrepreneurs by providing resources, tools and training.
Earlier this month, the County gathered with over 120 local business owners, community leaders and various local organizations at the Wadsworth Homestead for a workshop designed to help small businesses and communities learn how to become a destination during the holidays and beyond.
The workshop featured keynote speaker, Jon Schallert, who shared his destination business expertise using his 14-step Destination Business process, which he developed by studying and interviewing over 10,000 independent business owners across over 500 cities and towns.
Those in attendance learned more about Jon’s background, his proven strategies to help businesses grow and market themselves and were able to draw from details of his experiences working with businesses of any size. In addition, those in attendance had the opportunity to network with each other, community leaders and County staff and learned more about cooperative advertising that Genesee Valley Publications offers to businesses looking to market themselves during the holiday season.
Those who attended not only received expert advice and instruction, but are now eligible to apply for Livingston County’s First Impressions Program: Winter Edition – an innovative funding opportunity designed to provide funding for local businesses seeking to create an inviting experience for potential customers during colder months.
The County had several other incentives for attending including raffles, one-on-one consultations with Schallert and other prize packages all designed to help attract customers and capitalize on different marketing opportunities. Dublin Corners Farm Brewery was the beneficiary of the workshop’s largest prize after winning an igloo to be used for outdoor seating or other creative ideas during the colder months.
In addition to the workshop, Grow LivCo and Visit LivCo, the County’s tourism branch, have developed several other programs to help small business thrive during any season including the Shop Local, Shop LivCo campaign – a strategy aimed at spreading awareness throughout the County and beyond on local specials and promotions along with the importance of shopping locally.
As part of this program, businesses and organizations who attended the How to Become a Holiday Destination workshop can sign up for a Shop LivCo Kit that contains branded items including gift bags, gift card holders, lawn signs, wrapping paper, stickers and more.
