Adderall shortage is impacting Americans in need of the medication

A national shortage has been declared for the medication Adderall, which is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Adderall shortage is impacting Americans in need of the medication

According to AS, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration made the declaration on Wednesday.

The drug is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and once the announcement was made their shares fell 1.5% after trading hours.

Why is there a shortage of Adderall?

Adderall is made with amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. There have been factory delays at Teva intermittently, causing the shortage. While other companies have continued to make amphetamine mixed salts, there is not enough to meet demand.

There is planned supply recovery for these drugs and that will be happening between Oct. 2022 and March 2023.

People could experience a delay in receiving their medications depending on the timing and demand, but it will only be temporary, according to Teva.

They added that they expect full recovery in the upcoming months.

It should be around two or three months before supplies are normal again.
