The Buffalo Sabres opened their 2022-23 season with a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night at KeyBank Center.
Buffalo trailed 1-0 after the first period, but responded with two second-period goals to take the lead into the third period. The Sabres put the game away with two empty-net goals 15 seconds apart in the final minute of regulation.
JJ Peterka netted his first NHL goal to spark the Sabres’ offense. Rasmus Dahlin found the back of the net, while Victor Olofsson scored both empty-net goals.
Craig Anderson, who started between the pipes for the Sabres, stopped 35 shots to secure the win.
Buffalo finished 0-for-4 on the power play while going a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Sabres will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Florida Panthers at 1 p.m.
