Hosmer scores big in special issue of Wine & Spirits

Hosmer Winery is known for its wide portfolio of estate-grown high-quality wines. In the most recent Special Issue of Wine & Spirits, not one, but two of Hosmer’s wines are recognized in their Top 100 series.

Each year, Wine & Spirits releases a list of their top 100 Best Buys summarizing the top quality-to-price ratio bottles of that year from regions all over the world.

The 2020 Hosmer Winery Chardonnay received 92 points and inclusion in the Top 100 Best Buys of 2022. Aged mostly in steel tanks with 11 percent of the lot barrel fermented, this stylish chardonnay’s nutty lees notes and a whiff of oak provide a counterfoil to the tense lemony Finger Lakes fruit. Perfect for seafood.

A semi-sweet 2019 Patrician Verona Riesling follows with 92 points. The wine is foresty and savory when first poured with pine tips, camphor, and smoke; it may bring to mind a lake breeze blowing through white pines on the Cayuga shore. Golden apple sweetness makes a brief appearance before the wine is finished savory and composed. “Remarkably exotic for the price” This wine is named after the Hosmer’s vineyard, Patrician Verona Vineyards, which celebrated 50 years of growing grapes this year.

Both wines are available for sale in the tasting room and online.
