Election Day is getting closer and Democrat incumbent Kathy Hochul is maintaining an advantage over Republican challenger Rep. Lee Zeldin.
Hochul holds a 10-point lead over Zeldin, according to a newly produced Marist College poll.
Interestingly, Hochul’s lead is only 8 points among voters who say they are ‘definitely’ voting in the upcoming election.
If Election Day were today the poll found that the outcome would be approximately 51-41 in favor of the incumbent.
Both candidates win with their respective parties. However, the poll showed that Zeldin has a major advantage with independent voters winning that group by a 14-point margin.

Siena College polling has shown in recent months that outside of New York City the race for Governor is very close.
When early voting begins success of the Republican challenger will depend on Upstate vs. Downstate turnout, as well as his ability to win by larger margins in those Upstate counties.
