The Yates County Legislature recently got an update on its community center project, and it was largely good news.

Yates County Economic Developer Steve Griffin and Penn Yan Plumbing & Heating owner Brian Cunningham provided the update to the legislature.
Jill Bird has been identified as its first full-time executive director. Other partners like Finger Lakes Community Health and Keuka College are in talks of collaborative projects as well.
The development is off North Main Street. It includes a field house, fitness center, basketball and pickle ball courts, a pavilion, and playground.
The court and playground have been completed. The pavilion should be done by spring. The construction committee for the field house has been formed and will move forward.
The project was approved for a $500,000 grant from the state. Local businesses and community members also pledged money for the project.
It’s a large investment that many hope will have an impact on quality of life in Yates County.
