Yankees’ Scott Effross needs Tommy John surgery

The New York Yankees bullpen took another hit on Tuesday morning ahead of Game 1 against the Cleveland Guardians.

Reliever Scott Effross had an MRI that revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament. He will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Effross was acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on August 1 in exchange for right-hander Hayden Wesneski.

The 28-year-old posted a 2.13 ERA in 13 outings (12 2/3 innings), including three saves, for New York.

The Yankees are already without Chad Green, Michael King, Zack Britton, and Ron Marinaccio because of injuries. Aroldis Chapman won’t be around after he skipped a mandatory workout.
