Sabres sign defenseman Mattias Samuelsson to seven-year contract extension

The Buffalo Sabres announced Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Mattias Samuelsson to a seven-year, $30 million contract extension.

Samuelsson is one of the team’s top blueliners, but he is not known for his scoring. He tallied 10 points in 42 games with the Sabres last season and has not found the back of the net through his first 54 NHL games.

The 22-year-old is expected to begin the season alongside Rasmus Dahlin on the top pairing.

Buffalo drafted Samuelsson in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft.

The Sabres will open their season at home on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators.
