There was fresh criticism of the Ontario County Landfill at its most-recent meeting.
The Ontario County Board of Supervisors heard from two more local residents who say the governing body should do more to control odors coming from the landfill as winter approaches.

Nicholas Metz, a Geneva resident, said with winter approaching – people should expect landfill odors to be more noticeable. He predicted that the odors would be worse during the overnight and into early-morning hours.
“No matter what mitigation efforts are taken with an open landfill, as long as it emits pollution, the laws of physics say we will be dealing with it,” he said. “I urge you to go against any future expansion of this landfill.”
Canandaigua resident Christ Costello echoed those concerns calling the landfill a ‘toxic waste dump’.
“Is there a good reason to extend this landfill contract,” he asked. ““We should not be pushing this liability onto future generations. People don’t leave other people toxic waste dumps.”
