Days after it was reported across the state that New York State Police Superintendent Kevin Bruen was under investigation – it was confirmed that he had resigned.
First Deputy Superintendent Steven Nigrelli will serve as acting superintendent for the time being, according to Governor Kathy Hochul’s office.
Allegations of favoritism and other issues related to relationships Bruen had with HR personnel led to the investigation.
Hochul said a thorough search would take place to find a long-term successor.
“The State Police have made tremendous progress in combating gun violence and keeping New Yorkers safe, and that must continue,” Hochul added in a statement.
