The New York Mets completed a doubleheader sweep of the Washington Nationals on Tuesday at Citi Field with a 4-2 victory in the first game, and an 8-0 win in the nightcap.
Despite taking both games, the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins, so they clinched the National League East.
GAME 1 RECAP:
In the first game, Brandon Nimmo drove in three of the four runs. He smoked a two-run double and crushed his 15th home run of the season to propel the Mets. Mark Canha chipped in with a sacrifice fly.
Carlos Carrasco surrendered a pair of runs on five hits over four innings while walking one and striking out three.
GAME 2 RECAP:
In the second game, Nimmo stayed red-hot as he collected three more RBIs with a two-run single and his 16th home run. Francisco Alvarez crushed his first Major League home run, and Lindor smacked his 26th long ball. Jeff McNeil, Mark Canha, and Luis Guillorme recorded RBIs as well.
Taijuan Walker tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out 10.
The Mets will try to sweep the series on Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. in the season finale.
