Cortland blanks Hobart, 3-0

The Hobart College soccer team was defeated by SUNY Cortland 3-0 in a non-conference contest on Cozzens Field Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Statesmen are now 4-3-3 overall this season.

Guillermo Castañeda Chang played all 90 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and made two saves. Luke van Galen played all 90 minutes in goal for Cortland and made six stops

KEY STATS:

  • The Red Dragons finished with an 11-10 edge in shots. Hobart held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Mateo Marra factored into all three goals for Cortland, finishing with two goals and an assist

FIRST HALF:

  • Marra opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Cade Denlinger was credited with an assist on the goal. He sent a leading pass to Marra, who chipped the shot past the Hobart goalie.
  • The Statesmen had their chances in the first half, finishing with a 7-4 edge in shots.
  • Connor Koschineg fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box that was stopped by van Galen.
  • In the 44th minute, Dan Tencic’s shot from the top of the 18-yard box just missed the crossbar.

SECOND HALF:

  • Cortland took a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute on Mara’s second goal of the game. He intercepted a clearing pass in the box and blasted a shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
  • Ten minutes later, Aj Alit bounced a shot off of the crossbar.
  • Matt Shultz added an insurance goal in the 69th minute. He collected a leading pass from Marra and ripped his shot into the lower right corner of the cage.

UP NEXT: 

  • Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when it welcomes 20th-ranked Clarkson to Cozzens Field. The Liberty League Contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
