Sheriff Brian Schenck says his office is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Friday around 2:14 p.m.
Deputies and other first responders were called to a crash at the intersection between Route 34 and Tanner Road in Brutus. Three cars were involved in the crash, according to a news release.
Preliminary investigation determined that a southbound SUV slowed on Route 34 to turn left onto Tanner Road when it was rear-ended by another SUV, which continued into the northbound lane of Route 34.
The front SUV was identified as a Toyota Highlander, while the following SUV, which rear-ended the Highlander, was identified as a Honda CRV.
Schenck identified the deceased victim as David Adams, 78, of Auburn.
The driver of the front vehicle was identified as 81-year-old David Dygert, who was transported to ACH for treatment. Another front-seat passenger in that vehicle, 70-year-old Deborah Supple, was transported to ACH, too.
Penny Adams, 76, of Auburn was transported to ACH. She was the driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the front SUV.
Richard Farr, 76, was also in that vehicle and transported to ACH for treatment. David Adams, 78, of Auburn was pronounced dead at ACH.
Another victim in a third vehicle, identified as Darlene Dolphy, 57, was evaluated at the scene.
