Home energy costs: What about the plan unveiled by Republicans? Will it work?

Republicans say they have a plan for home energy costs this winter.

It involves a package of proposals that would lower home energy costs, which have been rising, and are expected to continue increasing into the winter.

Among the proposals – providing home heating tax credits, repealing energy taxes and fees, and permanently suspending taxes on gasoline purchases.

“At a time when our government should be focusing on making New York more affordable, they have decided to double down on their radical policies, making it even harder for New Yorkers to make ends meet. We all have a shared interest in protecting our environment, but we must not do it at the expense of our residents and small businesses,” Assemblyman Jake Ashby said during the release of the package.

Clean energy provisions are a major concern for Republicans, who say they are helping drive up the overall cost of energy.

The gas tax suspension is set to expire later this year.
