Yankees clinch AL East with win over Blue Jays

The New York Yankees clinched the American League East for the first time since 2019 with a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night at the Rogers Centre.

The offense was led by Gleyber Torres, who had three RBI singles. Anthony Rizzo drove in a run with a single, and Aaron Hicks plated a run with a double.

Jameson Taillon allowed two runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings while striking out six. Lou Trivino recorded the final five outs and picked up the save.

The Yankees will try to take two of three from the Blue Jays on Wednesday night with Gerrit Cole on the mound. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
