Cayuga County is going to have a few more solar farms in Aurelius.
The town board approved three small-scale solar farms that would produce an estimated 29 megawatts of power on 213 acres of land.
Work on the projects is expected to begin this fall.
The larger project is planned for vacant property along Genesee Street Road near the former General Electric plant.
Norbut Solar Farms acquired 147 acres from the Wait family for $1.3 million. It’s assessed at $573,700 because of contamination created by the GE plant.
Norbut plans four solar arrays there.
Two smaller solar farms are being developed on farm land near Senior and Half Acre roads. Nexamp Inc. is leading that effort. The combined parcels are around 150 acres.
