The New York Yankees will have to wait at least another day to clinch the American League East as they fell to the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2, in 10 innings on Monday night at Rogers Centre.
After New York failed to score in the top of the 10th, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smoked a walk-off single off Clarke Schmidt in the bottom of the inning to give Toronto the victory.
Both of the Yankees’ runs came in the first two innings. Gleyber Torres lifted a sacrifice fly, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa crushed his fourth home run of the season.
Luis Severino made his second start since coming off the injured list and surrendered two runs over four innings while walking three and striking out four.
Jameson Taillon will get the ball on Wednesday as the Yankees look to bounce back. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
