Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce announces ribbon cutting for Oak & Stone

The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce is holding a ribbon cutting for Oak & Stone: A gift shop by Staving Artist Woodwork, that will take place on Tuesday, September 27 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at 16 N Franklin St, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.

Dan Mitchell and Rachel Orlyk are thrilled to be opening Oak & Stone: A gift shop by Staving Artist Woodwork. This sundry and gift shop is located inside the Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen.

Dan, having previously worked in the wine industry, became passionate about woodworking with old barrels as a way of artist expression as well to reduce waste. Both Dan and Racheal have deep rooted ties to the Finger Lakes region, and they are passionate about using reclaimed materials and partnering with local artisans to make unique and sustainable products.

Rachel shares “Dan started this business 17 years ago. He worked in the wine industry locally and didn’t like to see the wine barrels wasted.”

In 2017 Dan and Rachel opened a store in Penn Yan – Staving Artist Woodwork, featuring Dan’s woodworking items. In July of 2022 they opened Oak and Stone, a Finger Lakes oriented gift shop. Along with Dan’s woodworking, guests to the shop will be able to find hand poured candles, local history books, clothing, home décor items, sundries, and necessities for hotel guests.

Rachel explains “We want this to be a place for both locals and visitors to enjoy unique Finger Lakes gifts. Oak & Stone will also be the only location in Watkins Glen where our very own Sudsy’s Hot Sauce is available to purchase. Our shop will be ever changing as we rotate items for the seasons, so you’ll just have to stop by regularly and see what’s new!”

Oak & Stone will be open daily inside the Harbor Hotel, their hours are 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM – closed 1:00 – 1:30 PM for lunch. Find them online.

Watkins Glen Area Chamber Executive Director Nigar Hale shares, “the Chamber is delighted to welcome Dan and Rachel and their newest shop Oak & Stone to Watkins Glen. We wish them all the best with their newest endeavor.”
