Michael Perez’s eighth-inning grand slam lifted the Syracuse Mets over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 8-5, in the series opener on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Perez’s second home run of the season capped off a six-run eighth inning. Gosuke Katoh and JT Riddle had bases-loaded walks earlier in the game. Carlos Rincon smacked his fifth homer, and Khalil Lee drove in a run with a double.
Locke St. John allowed three runs (two earned) over two innings of work for the Mets.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. in the middle game of this three-game series.
