Jacob deGrom allowed five runs for the first time since 2019 as the New York Mets suffered a 10-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Sunday evening at the Coliseum. With the loss, the three-game series is even at a game apiece.
deGrom lasted a season-low four innings after allowing three runs in the first and another in the third. The right-hander fell to 5-3 on the season.
The bullpen also struggled as Trevor Williams, Joely Rodríguez, Adam Ottavino, and Trevor May surrendered runs.
All of New York’s offense came in the first two innings. Francisco Lindor collected his 100th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly. Pete Alonso crushed a two-run home run, his 38th of the season. Mark Vientos smacked his first Major League homer.
The Mets will try to bounce back on Sunday with Max Scherzer on the hill. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:07 p.m.
