The New York Yankees edged the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, on Friday night at Yankee Stadium and pushed their win streak to five games.
With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jose Trevino ripped a two-out RBI single to center field to put the Yankees back on top, 5-4. Jonathan Loáisiga came back out to pitch the top of the ninth and worked into and out of trouble to secure the victory.
Aaron Hicks crushed his eighth home run of the season and smoked an RBI single. Gleyber Torres stayed red-hot at the plate as he hammered a two-run double.
Gerrit Cole started on the mound and surrendered four runs on five hits over six innings while walking two and striking out eight. All four of the runs that he allowed came via the home run. Tommy Pham belted a solo shot, and Alex Verdugo smacked a game-tying three-run homer.
Domingo Germán will get the ball on Saturday as the Yankees try to secure a series win. The first pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
