Rochester Red Wings bounce back with win over Buffalo

The Rochester Red Wings bounced back from Tuesday’s extra-inning loss with a 7-3 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.

After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Rochester plated four of its seven runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead. Taylor Gushue put the Red Wings on the board and tied the game with an RBI single. Two batters later, Andrew Stevenson crushed a three-run home run, his 16th of the season, to make it a 4-1 game.

Buffalo plated a run in the bottom of the fifth and another in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3, but Rochester answered in the top of the seventh as Lucius Fox smoked a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-3 and give the Red Wings some breathing room.

Rochester added an insurance run in the top of the eighth as Nick Banks smacked his 11th long ball of the season to increase the lead to 7-3. The bullpen held the lead the rest of the way, and the Red Wings grabbed the win to even the series.

Washington nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore made his third rehab start with the Red Wings and tossed four innings of one-run ball.
