Yankees reinstate Harrison Bader, place Frankie Montas on injured list

The New York Yankees made roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Outfielder Harrison Bader was reinstated from the 60-day injured list, and Frankie Montas was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation (retroactive to September 17).

The Yankees acquired Bader from the St. Louis Cardinals for starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery at the trade deadline. Bader was on the injured list at the time of the trade with right foot plantar fasciitis and has not played in a big-league game since July 26.

Montas left his last start after 3 1/3 innings with right shoulder discomfort. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters that he received a cortisone injection on September 20 and will be shut down from throwing for about 10 days.

With Montas likely missing the rest of the regular season, right-hander Domingo Germán will slot back into the rotation and start Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
