Cornell Design Connect students working with town of Geneva to plan resource recovery park

The Cornell University Design Connect program has chosen to work with the town of Geneva next spring.

Student-led program helps communities with planning projects

Design Connect is an interdisciplinary, student-run design organization at Cornell University.
Design Connect provides practical experience for Cornell students by delivering impactful planning and design services for local communities.

Geneva Town Supervisor Mark Venuti has been a vocal critic of the recent talk of extending the Ontario County landfill’s life beyond its currently scheduled 2028 closing. He says if Ontario County communities want the landfill to close, they have to start planning for how they’ll reduce their waste streams in the future.

He says the Cornell students will help the town design a resource recovery park.

The Cornell team will assist the town with evaluating area needs for solid waste management, recycling, and reuse opportunities. Venuti credits the town’s Sustainability Coordinator, Jacob Fox for reaching an agreement with the Design Connect program.
